Walter J. Everett III died Monday, April 14, 2008, at Doylestown Hospital. He was 85. He was the widower of Gloria Fitzpatrick Everett. He was the son of the late Walter J. Everett II and Thelma Lear Everett.

A lifelong resident of New Hope, Mr. Everett was a member of St. Martin of Tours Roman Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a life member of the Edgar H. Denson American Legion Post 79 in New Hope, the Lambertville-New Hope Rescue Squad and the New Hope Eagle Fire Co. He was also a member of the Bucks County Police Chiefs Association.

For 28 years, Mr. Everett was a police officer for New Hope Borough and, for 18 of those years, served as its chief of police. He retired in 1991.

He is survived by one son, Walter J. Everett IV of Upper Black Eddy; three daughters, Gloria Jean Clark of Danboro, Marge Carr and her husband, Richard, of Doylestown and Linda Voorhees and her husband, Charlie, of Lambertville, N.J.; three sisters, Norma Case of West Amwell Township, Betty Connery of Somerton, S.C., and Sue Kintzel of Rosemont; one brother, Harry Everett of New Hampshire; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 1 Riverstone Circle, New Hope. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Garefino Funeral Home, 12 N. Franklin St., Route 179, Lambertville, N.J.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lambertville-New Hope Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 237, Lambertville, NJ 08530.
